The Consultation
The first step is to meet with Dr. Sullivan, who will look over your medical history and talk to you about your size goals. Dr. Sullivan will then tell you how many syringes you need and walk you through the pros and cons of each type of filler. You and he will then decide what kind of filler is right for you and how much it’s necessary.
Before the Procedure
Before the procedure itself, Dr. Sullivan will wash your penis with Hibiclens, an antimicrobial wash, and then apply a numbing cream on the area before the procedure. We’ll also give you an oral antibiotic and tadalafil (Cialis) to lower the risk of infection and retraction.
Lastly, you’ll get a penile ring block. This is where a local anesthetic is put into the base of your penis to numb it completely.
You are now ready for the procedure!
The Procedure
The filler is injected into the space under the skin, but above the fascia that protects the erectile bodies of the penis along the shaft. Dr. Sullivan will perform these injections with a micro-cannula. A micro-cannula is a long, very thin tube with a rounded tip. Dr. Sullivan makes sure not to touch the nerves and arteries on the top of the penis or the urethra. The microcanula helps reduce trauma and speed recovery.
Post-Procedure
After the procedure, you are cleared to go back to performing your daily activities. You can even travel by plane the same day. We do ask that you not have sex for two weeks. You will get a compression sleeve dressing, an antimicrobial wash, and an antibiotic cream to take home. You will clean the dressing and change it twice a day or whenever it needs to be changed. We tell our patients to expect bruising and swelling for a few days to a week. It could take up to three weeks for the filler to fully smooth out. We don’t expect you to feel much pain or discomfort, but if you do, we recommend taking Tylenol or ibuprofen to manage any discomfort.
The hyaluronic acid (HA) fillers can “grow” by roughly 20% in the weeks following your procedure. You’ll have a follow-up appointment six to eight weeks after the procedure to review your progress and make sure everything looks perfect. At this point, many patients choose to add more filler.
