What is Considered a Normal or Average Penis Size?
So, what is the normal or average penis size? Studies across the globe give us a pretty clear picture. A 2014 review involving over 15,000 men over 17 found that the average flaccid penis is about 3.6 inches long and has a girth of 3.66 inches. When erect, the average length is 5.16 inches, and the girth is 4.59 inches.
Average measurements were as follows:
– Flaccid Penis Length: 3.6 in (stretched)
– Flaccid Penis Girth: 3.66 in
– Erect Penis Length: 5.16 in
– Erect Penis Girth: 4.59 in
Another study in the U.S. reported similar results, with an average self-reported erect length of 5.6 inches and a girth of 4.8 inches. Remember, self-reported sizes can be unreliable, so these numbers are more accurate as they come from professional measurements.
The study measured the penile size of 80 males before and after drug-induced erections. In this study, the average penis size was 3.5 inches when flaccid and 5.1 inches erect. The study also found that the size of a person’s erect penis did not correlate with their flaccid penis size. In other words, a penis may have different lengths explaining: I’m a grower, not a shower.
Another study involving almost 800 men aged looked at medically induced erections and found the average penis length was 5.6 inches from the pubic bone to the penile tip, and penis girth was 4.5 inches.
Interestingly, a 2020 research article notes that most men believe the average length of an erect penis is around 6 inches, when in fact, the average is much smaller at 5.16 inches—this is an overestimate of almost an inch!
