What is the Recovery Process of Penis Enlargement Like?
One understandable concern men have about penile girth enhancement is the recovery process. It is a life-altering procedure. It’s a little scary to think about a procedure on your penis. Many men are concerned that it will be painful or that the recovery process will be prolonged. The truth is far less scary. Let’s go over the recovery process.
About the Recovery Process for Penile Girth Enhancement
Penile girth enhancement with dermal fillers is non-surgical and minimally invasive. It produces immediate, natural, and long-lasting results. Understanding the recovery process makes it seem less intimidating. Most patients are shocked at how easy the recovery is.
The recovery looks like this:
- You will have a bigger penis when you leave the office.
- You will continue to increase in girth over the next 3-4 weeks.
- Resume normal activities that day.
- Same-day flying is allowed.
- Most patients do not require pain relievers; acetaminophen (Tylenol) at most.
- Use the compression dressing, antimicrobial wash, and antibiotic ointment for 1 week to reduce swelling and discomfort and to reduce the risk of infection.
- No sex for 2 weeks.
- Lumpiness for 3-4 weeks is normal. Most of the lumps and bumps will be gone in a week.
The most important thing is communication. Dr. Sullivan would much rather hear from you than not, regarding any concerns or questions. Don’t hesitate to contact us if something feels unusual or if you have questions. At GetMoreGirth, we know this can be a scary process. We don’t want you to have any unanswered questions or concerns. We want to hear about any symptoms or complications immediately. What may seem like a trivial question may be significant or insignificant. Dr. Sullivan will contact you after the procedure, and you will be able to text him directly with any questions or concerns.
Will I Be in Pain?
Penile girth enlargement is remarkably pain-free. Before the procedure, you will be treated with a penile block and with a strong topical numbing cream. This will completely numb the penis. Additionally, the fillers contain lidocaine; therefore, aside from the two small needle sticks required to perform the initial block, you are likely to experience no sensation. After the procedure, the numbness lasts for several hours. Later in the day, you can expect mild discomfort and tenderness, but not pain. For most men, this discomfort does not even require Tylenol or Ibuprofen. If necessary, you may take these over-the-counter pain relievers. Most men are surprised by how rapid and painless the recovery is.
After Care Routine
When you leave the office, we will give you five items for your post-care routine:
- Tubular elastic dressings: Change them at least twice daily. The dressing helps the filler smooth out, and the gentle pressure helps with recovery.
- Hibiclens Soap (antimicrobial): This soap reduces the risk of infection. Use it twice daily when changing your dressing.
- Mupirocin (a topical antibiotic) should be applied twice daily. Apply it after washing and before applying the dressing.
- An oral antibiotic: You will take this before the procedure and continue it for a total of three days
- Tadalafil (low dose): Tadalafil enhances blood flow to the penis, thereby promoting healing and preventing retraction.
In the first week, you will clean with Hibiclens soap, apply antibiotic ointment, and change the dressing twice daily. You will also change the dressing if it becomes soiled. Most patients will also take the oral antibiotics twice daily for at least three days to prevent infection and the Tadalafil daily to improve blood flow and prevent retraction.
To reduce swelling and bruising, the dressing should be worn for at least a week. It also keeps the antibiotic ointment in place and prevents bacterial contamination. Gentle compression will help reduce swelling and smooth the filler. A gentle massage two to three times a day for at least 5-10 minutes is advised. Don’t go crazy! Just massage the skin.
Activity and Sex Restrictions
Normal activities can be resumed the day of the procedure. You may travel on the day of the procedure. Many patients fly in and fly out the same day. Please check with your airline regarding carry-on restrictions, as you will be packing.
However, no sex for at least two weeks. This is to prevent infection. It takes time for the injection sites to heal and the filler to integrate. After 2 weeks, the injection points will be healed, and sexual activity should be safe.
Potential Complications
Complications are rare, but they can happen, so it’s essential to look for any signs of infection or other side effects. The office should be contacted if you have any of the following:
- Persistent, worsening, or severe pain that doesn’t improve with over-the-counter pain relievers. This may indicate infection or other side effects.
- Signs of infection include increasing redness, swelling, or warmth. Any discharge from the injection sites should also be reported.
- Symptoms of an allergic reaction include rash, redness, or itching. Mild itching is a standard part of the healing process. Another sign of an allergic reaction is increased swelling after the initial swelling has subsided.
Instructions for Before and After Treatment
As with any medical procedure, careful planning before receiving dermal fillers and adherence to the provided instructions after treatment are essential for achieving good results and avoiding complications.
Before Treatment
- Getting Ready for the Procedure: A consultation before treatment will help you learn about the procedure, the results you can expect, the risks involved, and whether or not you are a good candidate for male girth enhancement.
- Medical History: It’s essential to give your doctor a complete medical history, including any allergies, past surgeries, medications, or health problems you may have.
- Drugs: To lower the risk of bleeding and bruising, you may need to stop taking some medicines (ask your doctor first), like blood thinners and non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs), a few days before the procedure.
- Smoking and Drinking: If you smoke, you should stop or cut back on smoking at least two weeks before the procedure because it can slow down healing. Also, don’t drink alcohol for at least 48 hours before the treatment.
After the Procedure
- Back to Normal: Most patients can return to their everyday lives immediately, but it’s best to take it easy and avoid strenuous physical activity for a few days after the procedure.
- Sexual Activity: Don’t have sex for two weeks to give the treated area time to heal and lower the risk of infection.
- Swelling and Pain: It’s normal to have some swelling, pain, or bruising around the area that was treated. These should resolve within a week. You can take OTC painkillers like Tylenol or ibuprofen. There may be lumps or nodules for 2 to 3 weeks.
- Hygiene: Use Hibiclens soap and water to keep the treated area clean to prevent infection. When you wash the area, don’t scrub it or apply pressure. Apply a topical antibiotic twice daily.
