What is the Recovery Process Like?

Will I Be in Pain?
The answer is that you will have some discomfort and tenderness for the first 2-3 days. For most guys, this does not even require Tylenol or Ibuprofen. If you need to you can take these OTC pain relievers. Most men are surprised how fast and painless the recovery is.

After Care Routine
When you leave the office, we will give you 5 items for your post care routine:
- Tubular elastic dressings – you will change this at least twice a day. The dressing helps the filler smooth out and the gentle pressure helps with recovery.
- Hibiclens Soap (antimicrobial) – This is an antimicrobial soap that reduces infection. Use it twice a day as you are changing your dressing.
- Mupirocin (a topical antibiotic) – You will also use this twice a day. Appling it after you wash and before you put the dressing on.
- An Oral Antibiotic – You will take this prior to the procedure and continue it for a total of 7 days
- Tadalafil (low dose) – Tadalafil enhances blood flow to the penis, thus healing and it preventing retraction.
In the first week you will clean with the Hibiclens soap, apply the antibiotic ointment and change the dressing twice a day. You will also change the dressing if it becomes soiled. Most patients will also take the oral antibiotics twice daily for at least three days to prevent infection and the Tadalafil daily to improve blood flow and prevent retraction.
To reduce swelling and bruising, the dressing should be worn for at least a week. It also keeps the antibiotic ointment in place and bacteria out. The gentle compression will help swelling go down and will smooth the filler. Gentle massage two to three times a day for at least 5-10 minutes is advised. Don’t go crazy! Just massage the skin.
Activity and Sex Restrictions
Normal activities can be resumed the day of the procedure. You can travel the day of the procedure. Many patients fly in and fly out the same day. Please be sure to check with your airline about carry on restrictions because you will be packing!
Sexual Activity: No sex for at least two weeks.
This is to prevent infection. It takes time for the injection sites to heal and the filler to integrate. After 2 weeks, injection points will be healed and sexual activity will be safe.
Potential Complications
Complications are rare but they can happen so it’s important to look for any signs of infection or other side effects. The office should be contacted if you have any of the following:
- – Pain: Persistent, Worsening or Severe Pain that doesn’t improve with over-the-counter pain relievers. This can be a sign of infection or other side effect.
- – Infection: Signs of infection include increasing redness, swelling, or warmth. Any discharge from the injection sites should also be reported.
- – Allergic Reaction: Symptoms for an allergic reaction include rash, redness or itching. A little mild itching is a normal part of the healing process. Another sign of allergic reaction is increased swelling after the initial swelling has gone down.
Recovery Process:
- Immediate results: You will have a bigger penis when you leave the office. It will continue to increase in girth over the next 3-4 weeks.
- Resume normal activities that day. Same day flying is allowed.
- Most patients do not need pain relievers, Tylenol at most.
- Use the compression dressing, antimicrobial wash and antibiotic ointment for 1 week to reduce swelling and discomfort and risk of infection.
- No sex for 2 weeks.
- Lumpiness for to 3-4 weeks is normal. Most of the lumps and bumps will be gone in a week.
