Pre-Procedure
Consultation: The first step is a consultation with Dr. Sullivan who will go over your medical history and discuss your size goals to recommend the number of syringes you need. He will also discuss the pros and cons of the different fillers. Together you will select the number and type of filler you will have done.
Preparation: In preparation for the procedure Dr. Sullivan will clean your penis with Hibiclens, an antimicrobial wash and apply a topical numbing cream. During this time, we will have you take an oral antibiotic and tadalafil (Cialis) to reduce the risk of infection and retraction. Finally, you will have a dorsal penile block. This is where a local anesthetic is injected into the base of your penis for total anesthesia. You are now ready for the procedure.
What Fillers Are Used?
- Hyaluronic acid (HA) fillers are long-lasting, reversible, and natural feeling. GMG uses Voluma and Volux for penis enlargement. Voluma is the longest-lasting HA filler and one of the thickest fillers. Voluma lasts at least two years. Volux is firmer than Voluma and lasts at least 2 years. Dr. Sullivan uses both Voluma and Volux for penis enlargement to get a good combination of firmness and flexibility.
- Polymethyl methacrylate (PMMA) is a bio-stimulatory filler with permanent results. It lasts at least five years and is considered permanent.
The Procedure
Injection Process: The filler is injected along the shaft of the penis into the space under the skin but above the fascia protecting the erectile bodies of the penis. Dr. Sullivan is careful to avoid the nerves and arteries on the top of the penis and the urethra along the bottom.
Post-Procedure
Post-Treatment Care: You can resume normal activities the day of the procedure. You are even permitted to fly that day. We do ask you to avoid sexual activity for two weeks. You will go home with a compression sleeve dressing, antimicrobial wash and an antibiotic cream. You will clean and change the dressing twice a day and whenever needed. Expect bruising and swelling for a few days to week, but it may take up to three weeks for the filler to completely smooth out. We don’t anticipate much in the way of pain or discomfort but if you have any, Tylenol or ibuprofen is suggested.
Follow-Up: The filler will increase in size by up to 20% for the HA fillers over the next 3-4 months. You’ll have a follow-up appointment scheduled six to eight weeks after the procedure to check the results and correct any unevenness. About 50% of patients will elect to add some additional filler at this time.
