After Care Routine

When you leave the office, we will give you 5 items for your post care routine:

Tubular elastic dressings

Hibiclens Soap (antimicrobial)

Mupirocin (a topical antibiotic)

An Oral Antibiotic

Tadalafil (low dose)

For the first week you will clean with the Hibiclens soap,  apply the antibiotic ointment and change the dressing twice a day. Please also change the dressing if it becomes soiled. Most patients will take the oral antibiotics twice daily for three days to prevent infection and the Tadalafil daily. The tadalafil increases blood flow to speed healing and prevent retraction.

Reducing Swelling and Bruising:

The dressing should be worn for at least a week as it keeps the antibiotic ointment in place. The gentle compression helps the swelling go down and keeps the filler smooth. We also advise gentle massage two to three times a day for several minutes. Don’t go crazy just massage the skin to again help the swelling go down and smooth the filler.

Activity Restrictions:

Generally, we advise patients to avoid strenuous activities for a few days. That means avoid heavy lifting, running, or vigorous exercise for 48-72 hours or as advised by Dr. Sullivan. Normal activities can be resumed the same day, and you will be able to travel the day of the procedure.

Sexual Activity: No sexual activity for at least one week. This is primarily to prevent infection. After a week, injection points in the skin will be healed and sexual activity will be safe.

Watching for Complications

Complications are rare but it’s important to monitor for any signs of infection or other side effects.  The following would be concerning, and the office should be contacted if they occur:

– Severe Pain: Persistent, worsening or severe pain that doesn’t respond to over-the-counter pain relievers.

– Infection: Signs of infection are increased redness, swelling, warmth, or discharge from the injection sites.

– Allergic Reactions: Symptoms include rash, redness or itching. Another sign would be swelling after the initial swelling has gone down.
